In further discussing our topic, we decided to focus on more of a brighter aspect of boys.
The focus of the documentary will be: the stereotypes of boys and how some go against it. Teenage boys generally have a negative stereotype to most people, which is based on the few ''threatening'' boys which spoil it for the rest. This stereotype is mainly emphasised by the media, and our documentary goes about showing that not all teenage boys are "frightening." To make sure this topic appeals to audiences we carried out a questionaire on a sample of people. The queationaire is as follows:
Gender: Female [ ] Male [ ]
Age: _____
Would you be interested in a documentary about the stereotypes of teenage boys?
Yes [ ] No [ ]
If yes, what aspects would you like it to cover?
peer pressure[ ]
Crime [ ]
Stop and search policies [ ]
Individual views [ ]
Mass media [ ]
All of the above [ ]
We uses 7 males and 7 females for our sample. Out of the 14 people 11 were interested in this topic as a documentary, 5 females and 6 males. Whilst 3 were not interested, 2 females and 1 male. Although these results do not reptesent the whole population, you can conclude that males may be more interested in this topic to females. This may be because it is appplys most to them.
Out documentary is tlttled "THE REAL DEAL" as it focuses on certain boys for who they really are, not what they're portrayed as being.
BEGINING
We will vox pop a variety of different people, in different environments. This will help us gain an overall view of how society views teenage boys. These will be short snapshots of words whch they use to discuss boys, e.g one person may say "scary", then another shot of a different person saying "rude". We plan to vox pops, other teenagers in Croydon, customers & people working in barbershops, etc. This will be based on the question "How does the media portray boys", or something similar. We also plan to interview a police officer, and ask him to say facts e.g 20 young males are arrested each day.
MIDDLE/ END
To move to the brighter side we will ask the police officer to say the line "Is this the whole reality on male youth. Whats the Real Deal"
After this we will show footage of productive young males, who go against the whole stereotype. We will do interviews with them, and film them ( fly on the wall approach) at what they do to consume their time. WE will ask their views about how boys are percieved, and judged by society & if this has made life more difficult for them.
