In further discussing our topic, we decided to focus on more of a brighter aspect of boys.
The focus of the documentary will be: the stereotypes of boys and how some go against it. Teenage boys generally have a negative stereotype to most people, which is based on the few ''threatening'' boys which spoil it for the rest. This stereotype is mainly emphasised by the media, and our documentary goes about showing that not all teenage boys are "frightening." To make sure this topic appeals to audiences we carried out a questionaire on a sample of people. The queationaire is as follows:
Gender: Female [ ] Male [ ]
Age: _____
Would you be interested in a documentary about the stereotypes of teenage boys?
Yes [ ] No [ ]
If yes, what aspects would you like it to cover?
peer pressure[ ]
Crime [ ]
Stop and search policies [ ]
Individual views [ ]
Mass media [ ]
All of the above [ ]
We uses 7 males and 7 females for our sample. Out of the 14 people 11 were interested in this topic as a documentary, 5 females and 6 males. Whilst 3 were not interested, 2 females and 1 male. Although these results do not reptesent the whole population, you can conclude that males may be more interested in this topic to females. This may be because it is appplys most to them.
Out documentary is tlttled "THE REAL DEAL" as it focuses on certain boys for who they really are, not what they're portrayed as being.
BEGINING
We will vox pop a variety of different people, in different environments. This will help us gain an overall view of how society views teenage boys. These will be short snapshots of words whch they use to discuss boys, e.g one person may say "scary", then another shot of a different person saying "rude". We plan to vox pops, other teenagers in Croydon, customers & people working in barbershops, etc. This will be based on the question "How does the media portray boys", or something similar. We also plan to interview a police officer, and ask him to say facts e.g 20 young males are arrested each day.
MIDDLE/ END
To move to the brighter side we will ask the police officer to say the line "Is this the whole reality on male youth. Whats the Real Deal"
After this we will show footage of productive young males, who go against the whole stereotype. We will do interviews with them, and film them ( fly on the wall approach) at what they do to consume their time. WE will ask their views about how boys are percieved, and judged by society & if this has made life more difficult for them.
DOCUMENTARY SOUNDTRACK---- ESTELLE "JUST A TOUCH"
This soung is fast & upbeat which will bring an exciting
element to out documantary.
DOCUMANTARY OPENING--- Newspaper headlines condeming males e.g "male gang kills
family man"

Results from questionnaire
We initially printed out 20 questionnaires, 10 to be handed out for the boys and 10 for the girls. In the end we printed out 26 because more students wanted to complete one as they were interested in the new topic we had suggested for our documentary. We handed them out to a diverse range of students; from the age to their ethnic background.
24 out of the 26 said they would be interested in a documentary on boy's attitudes towards relationships.
18 people said that we should cover all of the topics that we suggested: Love, Sex, Marriage and Peer pressure.
3 said we should cover:Love, Sex and Peer pressure
2 said we should cover : Love, Sex and Marriage
2 said we should cover just Love and Sex.
Other topics that people suggested were:, pregnancy, AIDS, violence, feelings/emotions, drugs, how boys should treat girls and STI's.
Most of the comments on views on relationships and how girls view the way boys see relationships stated that girls think we just want sex, and boys just want sex and can not stay faithfully.

Change of topic
Now that we are close to the filming date, people who originally agreed to be filmed dropped out. Due to the sensitivity subject and therefore seemed unethical. This is a hurdle we will just have to past.
We therefore came up with the idea of doing a documentary on Boys views on relationship covering the topics of: love, sex and marriage. - "An insight into boys minds"
We would have vox pops in croydon, we chose croydon as it is a hot spot for teenagers to go to after college/sixth form. One of the feed back from are pitch was to do the vox pops at South bank because of the scenery and the diversity of people, there we would get a wide range of opinions.
(if boy) - what do you think about relationships
(if girl) - how do you think boys view relationships
Are you currently in a relationship?
We would like to include focus groups, one with boys discussing their attitudes to relationships and also a focus group with girls discussing their thoughts on how boys view relationships.
Topics to be brought up in the discussion:
Marriage
Sex
Love
Peer pressure
Cutaways to footage of boys "chatting up"girls in croydon.
Older persons view on teenagers perspective on relationships.

Feed back on Pitch
After the pitch it was suggested that the title of the documentary be altered to correspond with the main focus of the documentary. The current title is "The truths behind aborition" this would suggested that it gives an all rounded over view of abortion but after the pitch it was evident that the documentary was very one sided and very much anti abortion. This was not our aim, to rectify the lack of versatility we aim to find people who are pro-abortion.
It has also been noted that an interview with a clinic doctor would be very informative and show the medical aspect of abortion rather than just the morals and belifes held by people.

audience research and facts

Davina created a questionnaire to devise our audience research on our documentary. We will be able to see firstly if people are interested in our concept and whether we need to add or take out topics that we wanted to address in our documentary.
Below is a copy of the questionnaire:
Abortion survey-audience research
1.Gender [ ]
2.Age [ ]
3.religion [ ]
4.Would you be interested in a documentary about abortion?
Yes [ ]
No [ ]
5.What would you like it to cover?
Girls point of view [ ]
Boys point of view [ ]
Rligion [ ]
All of the above [ ]
Other [ ] (please specify)
6. Do you know anyone who has had an abortion?
Yes [ ]
No [ ]
Yohanna rang the people that we wanted to get to appear on our documentary, to seek their permission. She was able to get in contact with a Muslim boy, who said he would be able to get his Imran to talk to us. She was not able to get through to Jennine as her phone went to voice mail.
Melissa was on the Internet getting the general facts on abortion that we would be able to add in our documentary;such as two doctors need to agree before a woman can get an abortion.
Rebekah was on the Internet getting the religious facts on abortion, from a Muslim perspective and a Christian perspective-evangelical. She found a quote that said that Muslim's find abortion forbidden in any circumstance.
Rebekah and Davina went to the abortion clinic on Leigham court road, they were closed due toconstruction but they was given a "bpas card".
